Team Lekker Shares Our Favorite Sofas (Custom Edition)

Posted on

Personifying furniture is just something that happens at Lekker. We’re surrounded by larger than life pieces all day every day and naturally start identifying with certain chairs and sofas like they were personality characteristics we were born with. This has led to many complicated and hilarious conversations about who would be what, and why.

Since we all treat design as very much an extension of our identities, this week we decided to hunker down and write odes to our favorite sofas. May our abundant design opinions help you if you’re on the hunt during the Custom Upholstery Sale or just on the lookout!

Consider this your little cheat-sheet full of our personal recs that you can trust and bookmark for whenever you need them 😉

Let’s dive in!

1. Katie, COO

Style: Form over Function

What’s your favorite sofa?

“Slimline, from Eilersen”

Fabric or customizations?

“I saw this in a nubuck leather at the High Point Market and it was delectable. Almost otherworldly in how soft it was to the touch and yet also, so fancy!”

What makes it your favorite!

“The Slimline feels so relaxed and inviting. The side cushions really allow you to squish in for maximum comfort but the supreme cushion quality keeps its shape so it’s not too relaxed of a look. In a leather or nubby, textured fabric I think this sofa can read quote formal and tailored but keep it’s inviting nature. Best of both worlds!”

Style: Feminine, Classic, Fresh

What’s your favorite sofa?

“2213 Sofa from Fredericia”

Fabric or customizations?

“Cognac 75 Leather is a must. Leather is the best option for creating a piece that will only get better with time, but this tone, in particular, is the winner. Imagine the perfect cognac tone with the worn-in feel of a classic baseball glove. I love it now, and would look forward to seeing it patina over time (the best part of anything done in leather).”

What makes it your favorite!

“Classic clean lines, insane attention to detail, and the handcrafted quality easily put this sofa at the top of the list. Each cushion is linen backed (so no worries about your cushions slipping around), with additional side cushions between the frame and the base cushion to hold everything in place. I love the idea of this sofa as an heirloom piece (the vintage version of this piece are seriously swoon-worthy) and know that no matter what style avenue I go down in the future, this sofa will always work.”

3. Taylor, Design Sales Associate

Style: Bold, Colorful, Fun

What’s your favorite sofa?

“Amsterdam Sofa by Lee Industries”

Fabric or customizations?

“Lee Industries has tons of fabric options, cushion customizations, and can be made up to your specification!”

What makes it your favorite!

“I love the comfort of the Amsterdam. They don’t call it the Haven Cushion for nothing, it’s the closest I’ve been to sitting on a cloud! The casual slipcover is perfect for a relaxing living space.”

4. Rose, Design Sales Associate

Style: Organic, Clean, Calculated

What’s your favorite sofa?

“Butterfly Sofa from Eilersen.”

Fabric or customizations?

“I would order this sofa in the Pierre 014 – navy velvet, my favorite textile in the world. This fabric has a super high rub count (110,000 to be exact) so it’ll last forever. It’s 100% cotton content is an attractive feature as well.”

What makes it your favorite!

“This sofa oozes feminine luxury with its wing-pillows, clean lines, and overstuffed cushions. It’s the perfect length at 90″ so three people can comfortably fit on it, and has a great seat depth for someone of my 5’2″ stature. I love Eilersen’s elevated frames, as the thin legs give the sofa an airy feel even though it’s a super dense, high-quality piece.”

5. Courtney, Creative Marketing Associate

Style: Artful, Intense, Industrial

What’s your favorite sofa?

“The Loafer Sofa, by &Tradition.”

Fabric or customizations?

“Definitely a moody velvet, probably Twilight Velvet or Pine Velvet. I like to flip the script and use color for larger pieces and then neutrals for accessorizing.”

What makes it your favorite!

“When we first got the Loafer Chair in the showroom, I screamed. There is video, but I have since destroyed the evidence. Every piece from the design duo of Space Copenhagen becomes a new favorite for me, and this sofa was no different. The Loafer Sofa makes me feel like I am powerful enough to drink a martini, only listen to vinyl, and be an ethereal painter all without residual shame. It’s elegant while still being extremely comfortable, and the back height is perfect for me as a smaller person.

6. Micaela, Content Marketing Assistant

Style: Warm, Minimalist-ish, Scandinavian

What’s your favorite sofa?

“The New Ash Sofa by Eilersen.”

Fabric or customizations?

“Okay so—this sofa was launched in an exclusive dark green leather and I’m in love with it. Typically, I’m a little wary of bolder colors for sofas, but the whole effect of the Ash in this fabric is beautiful and delivers the right amount of statement for me. If I were to go in another direction I think I would stick to a more subdued darker fabric (that’s also soft!)— like the deep blue from their Nature fabric collection.”

What makes it your favorite!

“Eilersen sofas, in general, are so lovely for so many reasons. Also — I’m one of those people that loves falling asleep on the couch. When I’m in a napping mood I rarely go to my bed, so the fact that Eilersen describes this as a “sleeping sofa” seals the deal for me. Having a design you love is important but it also has to fit your life.”

7. Lauren, Web & Marketing Associate

Style: Modern, Inviting, Whimsical

What’s your favorite sofa?

“Edward Sofa by Bensen”

Fabric or customizations?

“I’m partial to many of Bensen’s fabrics, but the thing that I really love about the Edward is that it has the option of ‘upgrading’ to a leather seat cushion. In the right combination, it really elevates the sofa while maintaining an element of whimsy.”

What makes it your favorite!

“I love the low profile, tufted bench seat cushion, loose back cushions, and the firm seat. All of these elements culminate in a sofa that is comfortable (especially for us shorter folks) and perfectly bridges the gap between modern and traditional sofa designs.”

8. Natalie, Founder + Creative Director

Style: Nordic, Modern, and Functional

What’s your favorite sofa?

“Mayor Sofa by &Tradition”

Fabric or customizations?

“Any color velvet – AJ6 looks good in anything but the velvet makes it look cozy and even more smooth.”

What makes it your favorite!

“It’s just so chic! Plus, it’s incredibly versatile, you could use it traditionally in a living or sitting room, or the small size is perfect for a bedroom nook. This Arne Jacobsen and Flemming Lassen classic has been around for a while, in fact, it’s celebrating its 80th birthday this year!

9. Curt, Principal

Style: Warm Modern

What’s your favorite sofa?

“Eilersen Slice”

Fabric or customizations?

“You can’t go wrong with Eilersen’s stock fabrics curated by their design team. All are fashion-forward, highly durable, family friendly, and spot treatable! “

What makes it your favorite!

“The deep down-top cushion has a polyurethane foam core for great support. The 100% down and small duck feather wrap makes it unbelievably plush. All are sewn into a channeled featherproof case for uniform distribution and maximum comfort. The deep seat and cloudlike back pillows make it the ultimate lounge piece. While its clean lines and stainless leg details make an architectural statement.”

Style: Tailored, Clean, Minimal

What’s your favorite sofa?

“SC2 Fly Sofa”

Fabric or customizations?

“White Oiled Oak frame with &Tradition’s House Velvet in Midnight. Spindles and dark velvet are both classic elements, but the contrast of the matte, light oak and deep, rich navy velvet is decidedly modern. &Tradition’s house velvet is luxurious and feels incredible. I want to live in it!”

What makes it your favorite!

“The Fly collection is beautiful and the scale of this particular piece is perfect. You can rearrange the loose back cushions to support your most comfortable position. As a tall person, I can really nest into the two-seater sofa. Visually, the Fly is elegant and timeless. The craftsmanship of the frame references classic Danish woodworking, but in an updated, sculptural form that makes a subtle, yet undeniable statement.

In my opinion, &Tradition is one of the most exciting brands we carry. Plus, the Fly collection was designed by Space Copenhagen, one of my favorite design duos in the furniture world.”
